Building a life in music for over 20 years, Kevin Huizing (aka Budakid) is a DJ, producer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and founder of the label Flores. For Budakid, making music is like breathing: an inseparable part of existence that cannot be removed or replaced. The Dutch, Berlin-based artist channels boundless creativity into his craft, which he still regards as a passion. His deeply rooted love for music is still uncorrupted by commercial pressure and infuses his productions with emotion and honesty. Born into a musical family with Indonesian heritage, Budakid's path to music was almost inevitable. Initially a drummer, he traded his drum kit for a computer in his teens, performing live for the first time at age 15 and establishing himself in the electronic scene near Nijmegen. In his late teens, he studied graphic design, exploring the visual dimension of creativity and later he studied music at Tilburg's Conservatorium. What began as a passion naturally evolved into his profession and over the years, Budakid became a respected name within the global electronic music scene. With over a thousand shows across all continents, his music stretches beyond the usual club format and has found support from DJs such as Adriatique, Hernán Cattáneo, Bonobo and Dixon. Parts of his catalogue have been released on labels connected to Sasha, Max Cooper, Solomun and Guy J. Budakid sees his releases on these labels as an audio diary, often inspired by personal life experiences or a reflection of a dedication to create art without restriction. That desire for independence led Budakid to launch his own label, Flores, in 2024. While the ambition to run a label had been present for years, his time living in the Alps allowed him to reflect on music, life, and career, redefining his path forward and giving him the courage to also release music on a newly minted label of his own. With Flores, he focuses on quality and authenticity and curates music from industry friends, connections and his own. He prioritises integrity rather than chasing trends or easy scoring, a philosophy natural for someone whose profession is his passion for over 20 years. Dance floors around the world have responded to Budakid's sound, with appearances at Tomorrowland, ADE, and Sónar Festival. His fanbase spans the globe, from Argentina too his loyal home city of Berlin. As a DJ he has traveled extensively, bringing his music to clubs and festivals across Europe, North and South America, India, East Asia and Australia. Large-scale performances are complemented by intimate shows at iconic venues such as Watergate, Café d’Anvers, La Bibliotheca and Paradiso. Budakid comes across as friendly and relaxed, but don't be fooled; he has a huge drive and works non-stop on his music in a positive aura. This work ethic has shaped what Budakid is today, generating joy and resonance not only for himself but, more importantly, for the ever-growing group of people who have encountered his music or persona.
