Five Steps to Your First Ranked Show

A concert diary is only useful once it has something in it. The gap between downloading SoundOff and actually having a real log, a few friends, and a first ranking used to be wider than it needed to be. The new onboarding closes it in five short screens.

Welcome sets the tone in one line: what SoundOff actually is, a personal record of the shows you’ve seen, not another algorithmic feed to scroll. Artists comes next, pick a handful you follow so your very first Discover picks aren’t generic. Friends lets you connect with people already on SoundOff or invite the ones who aren’t, because the app is a lot more fun with your crew already in it. Notifications (mobile only) asks once, clearly, for the alerts that actually matter: a friend logged a show near you, an artist you follow just announced a date. Recap closes the loop by walking you straight into logging your first show and ranking it against, well, nothing yet, but that’s the point. The ranking system gets sharper every time you add another.

Every screen is skippable. If you already know what you want, you can blow through onboarding in under a minute and land straight in the app. If you want the guided version, five steps is genuinely five steps, not a maze.

One more small thing worth mentioning: the new flow was tuned for dark mode readability, since that’s the default look for most of the app, so text and buttons stay legible instead of washing out. And if you get pulled away mid-setup, it picks back up where you left off instead of starting over.
